The Monday Byte

$1 English classes?!?!

Welcome to the Monday Byte where I send you 5 things each week so you can improve your English and land a remote dev job.

šŸ“– Word/Phrase - sounds gucci

Not related to programming BUT I heard it used the other day and thought, ā€œI bet most non-natives havenā€™t heard this before.ā€

Itā€™s the same as saying ā€œsounds goodā€ but itā€™s more fun. Try using it with a coworker next time on a video call and see how they react!

šŸ’¬ Pronunciation - Critique of Argentinian Developer

English Byte community member Pablo lives and works in Italy but is originally from Argentina. So not only is he working to improve his English but also his Italian!

In this video, I critique his English pronunciation in a short coding video he made.

Want me to critique your English? Reply to this and let me know!

šŸ—£ļø Real World Conversation - Put Yourself Out There

If you are serious about landing a remote dev job, one of the best things you can do is put yourself out there.

By that, I mean learning or building in public ā€” in English.

This weekend, I was finishing up a little project and googled ā€œvercel namecheap domain.ā€ One of the first results was this blog post. I read and thought, ā€œAmazing! This is exactly what I was looking for.ā€

After, I looked for the authorā€™s Twitter to send him a message and thank him. And guess what? Turns out he is a non-native English speaker from Mexico!

But thatā€™s the thingā€¦He helped me solve my problem and English isnā€™t even his first language!

Thatā€™s what I mean by put yourself out there. You never know who will find you. And who knows? It might even turn into a job opportunity šŸ˜‰

šŸ”— Content - The Whiteboard Guy

Have you heard of Ben Holmes? He makes fantastic coding videos and uses a whiteboard to explain complex topics.

Heā€™s a native English speaker (I believe heā€™s American) and youā€™ll definitely learn a thing or two about web development from him.

šŸ’ŖšŸ¼ Exercise - Take English Class for only $1

In collaboration with friends over at Immigo, I have a very special deal for you. You and many others said you struggle to practice speaking English, right? Well, that is no longer a problem.

For only $1 per class, you can practice your English and get real-time feedback live from English professors!

I donā€™t know how long theyā€™ll keep this deal going but Iā€™d act fast if I were you.

Bonus: Iā€™ll buy 4 classes for the first person to reply to this email with ā€œImmigo rocksā€ :)

Enjoy the week, weā€™ll talk again soon.
